چکیده

There is evidence in different species of genetic control of environmental variation, independent of scale effects. The statistical power to detect genetic control of environmental or phenotypic variability for a quantitative trait was investigated analytically using a monozygotic (MZ) twin difference design and a design using unrelated individuals. The model assumed multiplicative or additive effects of alleles on trait variance at a bi-allelic locus and an additive (regression) model for statistical analysis. If genetic control acts on phenotypic variance then the design using unrelated individuals is more efficient but 10,000s of observations are needed to detect loci explaining at most 3.5% of the variance of the variance at genome-wide significance. If genetic control acts purely on environmental variation then an MZ twin difference design is more efficient when the MZ trait correlation is larger than approximately 0.3. For a locus that explains a given proportion of the variation in variance, twice the number of observations is needed for detection when compared to a locus that explains the same proportion of variation in phenotypes.

Statistical power to detect genetic and environmental influences in the presence of data missing at random.

We study the situation in which a cheap measure (X) is observed in a large, representative twin sample, and a more expensive measure (Y) is observed in a selected subsample. The aim of this study is to investigate the optimal selection design in terms of the statistical power to detect genetic and environmental influences on the variance of Y and on the covariance of X and Y. Data were simulate...

Comparison of Affected-Sib-Pair Statistics for Multi-Locus Genetic Disease Models in Multi-Marker Analysis

Now, many human genetist are trying to detect agent loci of common diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, obesity, and so on. These diseases are caused by multiple genes interacting with each other and with environmental factors to create a gradient of genetic susceptibility to disease. Even when a trait is governed by multiple disease genes, for...

A new approach to the problem of multiple comparisons in the genetic dissection of complex traits.

Saturated genetic marker maps are being used to map individual genes affecting quantitative traits. Controlling the "experimentwise" type-I error severely lowers power to detect segregating loci. For preliminary genome scans, we propose controlling the "false discovery rate," that is, the expected proportion of true null hypotheses within the class of rejected null hypotheses. Examples are give...

Sensitivity analysis of parameters affecting carbon footprint of fossil fuel power plants based on life cycle assessment scenarios

In this study a pseudo comprehensive carbon footprint model for fossil fuel power plants is presented. Parameters which their effects are considered in this study include: plant type, fuel type, fuel transmission type, internal consumption of the plant, degradation, site ambient condition, transmission and distribution losses. Investigating internal consumption, degradation and site ambient con...

Linkage analysis of microsatellite markers on chromosome 5 in an F2 population of Japanese quail to identify quantitative trait loci affecting carcass traits

An F2 Japanese quail population was developed by crossing two strains (wild and white) to map quantitative trait loci (QTL) for performance and carcass traits. A total of 472 F2 birds were reared and slaughtered at 42 days of age. Performance and carcass traits were measured on all of the F2 individuals. Parental (P0), F1 and F2 individuals were genotyped with 3 microsatellites from quail chrom...
